Pedersoli Sharps 45/70
« on: May 10, 2019, 09:48:16 PM »
I contacted Pedersoli about ammunition for the Sharps 45/70.

This was their reply.
The .45-70 caliber is rated to use factory made smokless ammunition not exceeding 31908 P.S.I., or 2200 bar, as ruled by the C.I.P all the European Proof Houses refer to.

I also contacted Winchester about their ammunition, they told me their ammunition pressures were proprietary and would not tell me. (They lost a customer for life)

Since I have already purchased 2 boxes of ammunition. I want to know if they would be safe to use.

I load my own and according to my books it will handle 45 cal 405 grain bullet with 12 up to 13 grains of Trail Boss with no issues and is pleasant to shoot. There are other powers that can get the same performance and is safe. Remember the Trail Boss Power was created to provide filling of cases originally designed for Black Powder and provides approx the same performance. Just my 2cents worth. Lightning

The factory ammo will not hurt your Pedersoil however if the rounds are jacketed they will hurt our targets. I have a few boxes of Government 45-70 and I have had to just shoot them out and reload with lead bullets.

I have no intention of shooting the cowboy targets. Just got a good price on the ammo. At least I thought $32 a box a good deal. I know better now.
