Passing of Cowboy
« on: December 12, 2023, 11:25:28 AM »
It with a very heavy heart that I must report the passing of Jim Mayo, aka Bob Hunter, this morning.
Mayo was a good friend and an asset to our club. Mayo help for years with scoring, webdesign and maintenance, worked his butt off anytime it was needed.
Mayo had health issues the last few years and had to stop shooting but still came to a few matches to help out with other duties.
I spent many Friday lunches with Mayo talking about CAS, the war and other fun subjects.

I will miss him, he was a friend.

Wait for me in the clearing at the end of the path. Maybe we will ride the trail again.

Sad news. I know he had been sick for awhile.
Happy trails Jim.
 Prayers for his family

Jim Mayo was a tried and true member of the Smoky Mountain Shootist Society and a good friend to me.
We had many, many great conversations over the years and good times on the range. I will miss him.
All our best to Jean in this sad time.

 Fast Harley,
 and Last Kiss.

I might add, Jim Mayo was a mercenary sea captain character of Louis L'Amour who wrote no western stories
before WWII.

He always had a smile and a warm greeting for everyone. He truly reflected humility and would do anything to help others.

It's easy in today's fast paced society to forget about the past. Jim Mayo was shooting with Smoky Mountain Shootist Society at Hickory Creek range when I first started in 2002. At that time scoring was done on paper & no website existed for SMSS. Jim eventually took over scoring & the website tasks. He also was an integral part of the Smoky Mountain Shoot Out. He shot hot loads & time didn't matter to him. Unfortunately, circumstances & health issues prematurely ended his shooting CAS. Saddened to learn of his passing. Condolences to Shotzee La Rouge (Jean his wife) & family on Mayo's passing. Vaya con Dios Amigo

Thanks for letting us know.   One of the 1st guys I met when I started ... always enjoyed his company.

Neck deep in a remodel and have not made it out much.  Best wishes to all for the holidays and 2024.  See you down the trail soon ...
