General Discussion / Ammo shotage?
« on: January 28, 2021, 11:06:46 AM »
There is some discussion on the SASS forum about the ammo shortage causing some to not shoot, are there alternatives? So I will open a discussion here at the local level.

Is anyone not shooting due to shortage yet?
Should we go back to 5 stages? Would that help or hurt attendance?
Would anyone be interested in shooting 22's as match gun?
Categories that have reduced guns such as Rifle/Pistol, Rifle/Shotgun, Pistol/Shotgun, Shotgun/rifle/ one pistol.

These are some of the ideas being passed around at different clubs. I am not advocating for anything to change but if there is some folks that want to shoot but maybe not as much as we do, we will work with you.

General Discussion / Time served

Tennessee Tombstone has retired.

As of 1/1/2021 I have officially retired after 35 years of hard labor or maybe just a lot of sales calls. 2021 will be different for me that is for sure.

General Discussion / Range Courtesy
« on: December 12, 2020, 04:41:15 PM »
When we arrived at the range today someone had been shooting on our stage 1 - 3 which is fine, and left about 28 empty shotgun shells laying on the ground around the table which is not so fine. I dont figure it was one of the Cowboys but please be considerate of others; if you come out and shoot during the week pick up after yourself. Someone has to pick up those hulls, today it was me. Next time it may be you.

If you bring it to the range please take it home with you or put it in the trash.

General Discussion / Fun Match Today
« on: December 12, 2020, 04:32:14 PM »
Sorry for those of you who missed todays match, we had a great shoot, only light sprinkles on the last stage. Some of the best stories (thank you Jackalope) we were all laughing during the reading.
Lil Weasel and Jim Powder showed up for the match, along with 10 or so of our regulars.

Thanks to everyone who came out to play today. Thanks to Anita Margareta and Jackalope for staying so involved even though you are not able to shoot with us right now. I sure do miss shooting with you all, I have no one to keep me straight and on target. I think todays scores will show that little problem on my part.

General Discussion / RO I Class
« on: November 27, 2020, 09:36:33 AM »
I mentioned at the last match I was going to have a RO I Class in December and a RO II class in January.

I am looking at either the 6th or 13th for the RO I class. On the 6th we would work it around set-up if need be. Which day would be best for the most people? We have a nice building on the action pistol range with heat and big enough for social distancing if you want. I recommend RO training for all shooters, new shooters need to know the rules and nuances in our sport and a refresher class for most out there that my not have taken a class in a few years.
$25 first time, $10 for refresher class.

Which day is best and who would be interesting in attending?

General Discussion / Kitty Kitty Bang Bang passed
« on: September 11, 2020, 11:13:42 AM »
From the SASS Wire

Kitty Kitty Bang Bang a.k.a. Gayle Majors, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2020. She was my wife, my best friend, my greatest encourager and my Cowgirl. Many of you in Kentucky and Tennessee knew her and she loved and cared about all of you. Although her cancer and other health issues have prevented her participation in SASS the last few years, she kept her membership renewed until this year, when it was apparent that she wouldn't be able to shoot anymore. She loved the sport and the wonderful friends she made over the years. I know several of you have prayed for her and will pray for me. It is much appreciated. If anyone has picutures or video of her participating in our sport, I would appreciate copies.

 Thank you.

General Discussion / July Set-up
« on: June 28, 2020, 05:11:48 PM »
Well, I have volunteered to lead the set-up on Sunday the 5th. If you can help please do. I will try to do better this month than last month. I will keep BorderTown in mind while I am trying to lead the group. I will also hold an orientation for anyone that is interested in taking the class.

Jackalope is writing us three bays worth of stages, (if he makes it he will be in charge) Please help if you are able.

We will be shooting on the 11th taking as much care as we can with social distancing and as little contact as you are comfortable with. Stay safe and keep distancing. See you on Sunday.

General Discussion / Best Practices for conducting a match
« on: May 26, 2020, 01:40:44 PM »
All members of SASS should have gotten this notice from SASS. If you are a member and did not get an email check you spam folder or SASS does not have your correct information.
We need everyone to read this bulletin, we will have a form at the June shoot stating you have read this and we will have extra copies for those that have not read it. Not everything will apply to East TN but we will have a lot of it.
We will provide hand sanitizer, if you want gloves please bring you own, same for mask, keep distancing in mind, it will fall apart at times but we will make an effort to keep some distance between shooters. We will have smaller posses, only one on the loading table at a time unless we can figure out how to have multiple tables, we will still need unloading officers but only 5 on the line at any time. Shooter, TO, 3 spotters with distance between them. There is an inherent risk with this virus we need to keep aware of. The Oak Ridge Outlaws and their officers will do everything we can to help eliminate that risk but as in most thing the responsibility will be up to the individual people. TO's will be required to wear mask or bandanna however it will be up to the shooter to decide if they want to wear one.

Again as I have stated in numerous postings, if you are in the high risk group, interact with anyone in the high risk group, are uncomfortable getting around people right now please stay home and stay safe.

General Discussion / June Match
« on: May 19, 2020, 10:29:34 AM »
Doc and I talked over the weekend and we want to hold our June match. There are a lot of conflicting reports about this virus but the ones that cover outdoor transmission seem to be pretty consistent. There is very little transfer outdoors as long as we keep social distancing. (what ever the heck that is)
My question is, who else would like to get out and play on the 13th?

Jackalope, I don't know if you are getting out yet or not but I will be glad to take care of set-up and running the match but I really do not write that good of stages. If you would be willing to write the stages or let me have a few from the past we will offer a match.

TO will need to ware a mask or bandana and we will need to be aware of distance but we shot at Copperheads last weekend and the social distancing did fall apart at times. I will have a hand sanitizer attached to the side of my cart that anyone can use.

If you are not comfortable getting out yet please don't, if you feel bad please stay home, if you want to shoot come on out.
What we need to know is how many folks will show up. If only a few we will only use one stage and drop targets as we go along, if we have enough for two posses will set up two bays and shot 3  stages on each.

We will have small posses to help with the distancing. Post if you are planning on coming so we will know how much steel to set.

I am tired of living in fear of what has quickly become a moving target. I fear my government and the power they seem to have acquired more than I fear the virus.

General Discussion / RO Class
« on: November 27, 2019, 12:01:12 PM »
I would like to offer an RO I class in either December or January with out stepping on any shoots. That leaves the First or Third Saturday or any Sunday. What day would be best for the most folks is my question.
Give me a little feedback and I will ask Doc to reserve the clubhouse for that day.

I know we need an RO II class also but I would like to get RO I first and then offer the RO II class. RO II also is live fire so it is weather/temperature limited. I don't want to teach in the cold.
