General Discussion / It finely Rained
« on: November 30, 2016, 05:55:58 PM »
How did everyone fair during the storms and fires? I don't think we have any members up in the fire area but I know Harley and Last Kiss got a good wind last night, I hope everything survived down South.

General Discussion / Lets go to Bordertown
« on: October 21, 2016, 01:44:20 PM »
Well, its that time of year again when Lady T and I make our Westward journey for the regional in Tombstone Arizona. Traveling with us this time is Cactus and Lee, Doc and Appaloosa Honey. We will be meeting Harley, Kiss, Long Gulch, Roma Jane, Cooper and Pistol Creek (I think) in Tombstone.
We got an early start on Thursday and met up in Vicksburg, MS. Pretty much an event free day on the first day thank goodness. Well if you don’t count some Dumb A$$ hauling a load of truck tires loosing 3 tires at 70 mph right in front of us. It was a long drive, about 520 miles, but worth it to get started. Spent night at a nice campground we have used in the past with a shuttle to the casino so did not need to drive any more once we got set-up. Doc and Honey got a late start so they got in pretty late last night, and of course Cactus travels at his own pace so he got in a little later than we did but before Doc. Lady T and I gambled a little but mostly just wanted to eat dinner and try to relax for a while.

Today we are headed to Abilene, TX for the night. Seems there is some steak house that Cactus wants us to eat at, sounds like a good plan to me since I have agreed to cook for this lot for the whole trip.

I figure Harley will chime in some along the way and tell how their trip is going. I don’t know when they are getting to Tombstone but we will get there on Monday for a full week submerged in the ambiance of Tombstone. Of course we will be in full dress the whole time, mostly to aggravate the re-enactors since we look so much better than they do and we don’t take tips to have our picture made with the tourist. Should be lots of fun and we will report along the way. (I was reading this to Lady T and she almost ran off the road when I used and spelled ambiance correctly)

On a side note, the interstate system in this country is in pretty bad shape but I am pretty sure outside of the North, Louisiana is the absolutely worst we have encountered. I am pretty sure my gravel driveway is smoother and rides better. I don’t even want to think about what has shaken loose or broken in the 5th wheel as we went through Shreveport.

For now I think I will let Lady T drive for a while and I will rest my eyes so I can get us through Dallas.

General Discussion / SASS Southeast Regional
« on: August 31, 2016, 05:09:05 PM »
I was asked to pass this along to our club members, this shoot next year will be in Memphis

I just wanted to pass on to all the clubs in the region that this will be the last year that the Regional will be held in Charleston, SC.  Our applications are running way ahead of prior years so it is quite possible we might hit the 300 shooter (not included match workers) limit this year.  So please let your members know they might not want to wait to the last minute to put in their applications for the match.   Applications and information is available on our website: www.givhansferry.homestead.com.

Trading Post / Non-Cowboy Ammo
« on: August 29, 2016, 05:33:35 PM »
I dont normally post for stores but today I found a lot of non-cowboy ammo at a very unusual location. Shields Electronics in Knoxville has started carrying ammo at a great price. This is just a heads up for folks that might want to stock up before November.
Just ask for Jacquelyn and she will take care of you....for ammo.

a few examples are
9mm 115 RN - $12.95
223 40g - $20.95
40 SW 200g - $15.95
45 Auto 200g - $17.95

Just a heads up before it gets hard to find again.

General Discussion / Tennessee State Shoot
« on: August 28, 2016, 02:16:58 PM »
The Tennessee State Match is coming up the first full weekend in October, that is the 6th, 7th and 8th. If you have never been to Wartrace then now is the time to go. One of the best ranges in our State, great group of folks put the match on, 10 fun stages with side matches, dedicated camp ground, plenty of hotels in the area, events on the range after the shooting is over including much Jack Daniels they give away on side match award night, good food at the banquet, Man on Man or Lady on Lady shoot out, plenty of vendors, the list goes on and on.

This is one of my favorite shoots and it supports Tennessee. They will have State champions and over all winners in all categories including Outlaw the way it is suppose to be shot. Wartrace is the place to be the first full weekend in October.

Get your registration in and come shoot with a great group of Cowboys. Here is the link. Get your entries in and all that  is left to do is have fun.

General Discussion / Jackrabbit Bob
« on: July 22, 2016, 03:23:38 PM »
I received a call from JB Hemlock today and he let me know Jackrabbit Bob has passed away today.

Jackrabbit was one of our earliest members, very active in our club and getting it off the ground, he was safety officer when I joined back in 2000. Jackrabbit moved to Florida to go to work for AWA when they were trying to make a Lighting that worked.
I will post anything else I hear for those of us who knew him.

General Discussion / After the shoot
« on: May 11, 2016, 09:12:04 PM »
Stages are set, weather is looking great at the moment, now lets talk about what is really important. Where to go after the match.

I visited a new restaurant today in Oak Ridge, it is in the same building as Lincolns, new owners, managers, menu, even a new theme, (see if you can guess what it is.) Anyway, I talked to the manager and told her we were looking for a place where we could socialize, drink a little and eat a little. She offered us the game room which has 8 or 9 tables, couches, bar with stools along one wall, pool table, fooze ball table, a couple of servers and a guarantee our beverage needs would be filled.

I make a motion we give Swifty's Atomic Bar and Grill a try and see what we think. Here is the webpage, I understand Doc and Honey along with Cactus have eaten here already. Great beer selection for Mongo.

See everyone on Saturday

General Discussion / Lost a Cowboy

Ed Miles, aka Clint Westwood, has passed away. Westwood was one of our founding members I think. If he was not a charter member he was a long time member of SMSS. Please keep Ed and his family in your hearts and prayers.

General Discussion / Orientation Class
« on: March 04, 2016, 10:32:29 AM »
I am going to have an Orientation Class during set-up on Sunday. If anyone would like to attend they are welcome. I plan to bring a few different guns for a fellow to try out so if you are just getting started and don't have guns, we will provide them for you on Sunday. Everyone one is welcome, it is a good way to learn first hand about CAS.

I think set-up is around 1:30 and I will have the class as soon as we get stage one set.

For 99.63%   Against .037   Abstain 00.0%   PASS

All voted on items passed, if you show up with two butt forward pistols Last Kiss and I will have to see your draw to see if you sweep folks or not.
Also did not vote on the cease fire ruling. They are going to clean up the language in the existing rules.

General Discussion / Welcome SMSS Forum
« on: November 17, 2015, 08:15:49 AM »
If you clicked on the SMSSgazette link and hit the forum you will notice you ended up here at the Oak Ridge Outlaws forum. Welcome, the SMSS forum has not been getting any hits to speak of and we are now the Oak Ridge Outlaws and need to support our club. There were other reasons too so we have moved our forum here.

Take a look around if this is your first visit, Anita Margareta did a great job and is keeping it very current.
