Safe travels. Wish I could be there with you.

Bordertown bound

The fiver is packed, Lady T and I are headed out in the morning as soon as we can see. First night in Vicksburg. Wonderful place, lots of history. Would love to spend a few day exploring but we are on our way to Tombstone, AZ for Bordertown and lots of fun in the “Town to Tough to Die.”

Not much between here and Vicksburg and I hope it is very uneventful.

We meet Doc, Honey and Cactus in Vicksburg. There may be as many as 14 in Tombstone. Day one starts tomorrow and it feels like Christmas with the waiting.

I hope the rest of the traveling crew will keep up and post on this run.

More from Vicksburg tomorrow.

And so the adventure has begun. Left home at 8:00 Friday morning. Everything is feeling good, made it to Vicksburg for the first leg. Doc, Honey and Cactus got a much later start and ended up rolling in around 9:00 local time.

Lady T and I got here early enough to go have a seafood buffet at the casino did a little gambling. Too tired to play any card games so sat at a bar playing video poker. Not doing to much and had just about decided to come back to the campgrounds and wait on the slow movers when this fellow walked up and asked if I had my players card in the machine and when I told him yes, I was informed I was sitting it the “hotseat” and had won $250 just for being there. The way I figure it between fuel, dinner, $40 or so in the machines I am $50 ahead for the trip. I will get to put that $50 in the truck this afternoon when we stop and will be even half way through Texas. It is going to be a good trip.

Judge and Yazoo are in front of us a few hours, Cinch and Lucy went down the Trace to pick up I-10 and we will cross them again tomorrow down near the border.

All is good out here, surprisingly cool but we have the cloths to preserver.

More later from the Odessa Oil Fields where we are scheduled to camp tonight.

Well, we are a lot closer today than we were yesterday is all I can say. We put in 12 hours of travel time and covered 714 miles today. I know I have said this before but Dang Texas is a big state. 300 miles from New Mexico and about another 150 to Tombstone. I will be very happy not to drive a 4 wheel vehicle  again for a week or so. I do plan on putting a few miles on two wheels but that is totally different thing.

Travel across Louisiana and most of Texas was uneventful thank goodness. Have not seen any tall cows yet Harley but I am keeping an eye out for them. Judge and Yazoo are only about 140 miles ahead of us due to the grulling drive today. I am pretty sure we all will get to Tombstone tomorrow. Them around noon, us around 4:00. Cactus, Doc and Honey are still with us. We left this morning earlier than they did  but Cactus was able to catch up by the west side of Dallas. We are in Odessa tonight. Cinch and Lucy are in San Antoine for a visit to the Alamo.

Looking forward to getting together in Tombstone with the crew.

Next post should be from the Town to Tough to Die. Joe and Whiskey wont get in until Tuesday so I should be posting for a few more days.

Tombstone Arizona, home away from home. Took us 33 hours and 1800 miles but we are here. We pulled out of Odessa around 10:00 eastern time, drove the rest of the way across Texas. (Have I mentioned that Texas is a dang big state) Across New Mexico and into Arizona. I got to say that West Texas is very pretty, high dessert, about 4000 feet with mountains all around you. Really nice until you get to El Paso. Pretty sure it is still part of Mexico. New Mexico is always wonderful but we never have enough time to enjoy it.

Judge and Yazoo are here somewhere and Cinch and Lucy should be here tomorrow. Whiskey, Maiden, Copperhead and Ms Bo are due in on Tuesday I do believe. We have plans to ride bikes tomorrow and every day this week with trips to Bisbee, Texas Canyon and some place Lady T wants to go to. Something about antiques and shopping. Nothing but fun, playing for a full week.

Looking forward to reporting from Tombstone about our exploits, between the all of us there should be some really good stories I mean rumors. What happens in Tombstone to Tombstone should remain in Tombstone; until someone get hold of some of that Copperhead Juice that is.

More tomorrow.

Sounds like y'all are having a good time already.  We've always heard Bordertown is a BIG, CLOSE match, so be careful not to trip on the handgun targets!

Judge and Yazoo are looking good!

Thanks for the Tombstone Tales from Tombstone!  Keep 'em coming!

Hell, Hell the gangs all here. Well, except for Whiskey Creek, Copperhead, Ms Bo, and Iron Maiden that is. They are due in tomorrow around noon.
Got together with Cinch and Lucy, Judge, Yazoo, Doc, Cactus, Lady T, Honey, me. Had a few drinks at Doc Holidays Bar. Saw Stone Creek Drifter this afternoon. We stayed in Tombstone all day but plan to go to Bisbee tomorrow for a few hours.

As most would have heard by now there was a shooting here on Sunday by a re-enactor that had live rounds in his pistol instead of blanks. That is the talk of the town today, lots of TV reporters here. I even heard that Good Morning America was in town this morning. I am sure they will spin it to where the gun shot the fellow and not the idiot that left live rounds in his gun. And he must have been an incredibly bad shot as we have learned he actually shot 5 rounds with two of them hitting tops of buildings 3 blocks away. Seems not everyone can shoot from the hip. Lots of worry of what will happen now with Helldarodo.

Anyway, lots to do and see in the next few days then the shooting starts. Have not been to the range yet but plan to go on Wednesday to get Lady T set-up and get registered. Cant wait to get to playing.

More fun tomorrow.

I guess Copperhead Joe, Ms. Bo, Iron Maiden made it.  That doesn't look like Whiskey Creek though.

Well, everyone got here. Town is filling up with SASS shooters. We head to the range today to get registered and our first look at this years  Bordertown.

Yesterday some of us rode into Bisbee, home of the largest and oldest Copper mine in the US and possibly the world. The Copper Queen Copper mine was started back in the 1800s and is still active. They say the hole is visible from the space station but since I have not been there that is just a rumor. Did some shopping and visited a few interesting sites. Got back to Tombstone and met up with Joe, Bo, Whiskey, and Maiden for an evening of fun and laughter in the Town to Tough to Die. We closed the town down which is not too hard to do but is a lot of fun.

After the shooting on Sunday all re-enacting in the streets have been suspended, they can still perform in private areas such as the OK Corral and Old Tombstone but nothing in the streets at this time. No one is sure what is going to happen but the citizens are upset to say the least.
Group in attendance last night was Judge, Yazoo, Cinch, Lucy, Copperhead, Bo, Whiskey Creek, Maiden, Cactus, Doc, Honey and of course myself. Lady T took the night off and stayed at the campgrounds.

Had a bad storm roll thought last night with wind, rain and hell. You could reach out the door and catch the hell it was so hard. Hope no damage but you have to take what you get when you have no place to hide I reckon.

Off to the range this morning and I am sure Judge and I will both report on the targets and action going on.

We got Lady T set-up and everyone got their first look at the stages. Those of us who have been here before knew what to expect but I think the first timers were pleasantly surprised at the size and placement of the targets. TA Chance is the original Big and Close stage writer. Looks like some good vendors are here along with a slew of great shooters. They don’t have Senior GF so all of us are lumped together. Lasseter is here, I also talked to Max Montana yesterday. Two of the best so it looks like a real dog fight coming up.

After we visited the range yesterday, Cactus, Doc and I took about a 140 mile bike ride. Made a big loop and saw some beautiful country. Strangely enough we saw about 50 orchards along the ride. I never think of South Arizona as orchard county but it seems I learn something new every day if I pay attention.

Went out with the crew last night to a local hangout called Doc Holidays. They were having karaoke night and there were some pretty good singers. A few bad one too. The neatest thing was the bartender was a great singer and he would perform and never stop working. Mixing drinks, taking money and singing all at the same time.  It was amazing to watch. I took a video so I could show Lisa (owner of the bar I patronize in Maryville) what she needs to be looking for in her next bartender.

Today is sidematch and warmup day. Hope Lady T does good. I will let you all know how it goes. Looking forward to shooting.

Tombstone,

Thanks for the reports.  I'm looking forward to seeing a photo of those targets.

Judge said that he might have located one on Kid Ziggy's ancestors:

Sidematch day is over. Some really great shooters are here for this match. They had a 4 stage warm-up match which Whiskey and I got to play a little and I got to see Copperhead crash and then just play on one stage. We did have fun and hopefully got it out of our systems for the big show. We have a safety meeting at 7:00 and start shooting at 7:30. That may sound early and I guess it is if you are from here. All about 9:00 local time, not partying tonight. Have already gone to our respective homes for the night.

We have 26 or so shooters on our posse so should be interesting to see how it runs. We start at 7:30 and the second flight starts at 12:30. Going to make it work I am sure. Stages are fast and open to shooting styles.

I will report on day one tomorrow. Hope it is a good report.

I will get a pic tomorrow and send it to you. They are big and close.
