General Discussion / ORSA open house Many Thanks
« on: March 10, 2019, 08:22:06 PM »
I would first like to thank all those who came out to help!  This being the first such event , no one knew how many visitors would partake of this opportunity.  It may have been the weather but it was a great success.  The participants spent the first hour at a lecture and then were turned loose to visit the stages of the different pistol clubs. We were across from the pavilion and the rush seemed to be in our direction, but it never let up for over two hours.  We helped shooter after shooter try a hand at Cowboy Shooting. The first people left and others came then the first people came back because we had the “most fun guns to shoot.”  I did enjoy hearing the guys with the fancy automatics on their hips say those targets would be easy to hit.  They then tried shooting a single action only to hit the burm four or five times in ten. It was a great event that gained our shooting discipline some respect and interested some new shooters.  THANKS AGAIN !

General Discussion / Calendar of Events for Oak Ridge Outlaws
« on: February 08, 2019, 11:31:59 AM »
March 10th-ORSA is having an Open House for the public on the Action Pistol range from 2:00- 5:00.  All the member shooting groups will have a stage set up and volunteers to discuss that shooting discipline.  Cowboys have stage 3 or 1 as we call it. Since we shoot the day before we will just leave the stage up.   I will be there and need volunteers to come and practice on the stage as a demonstration and to explain our sport. Let me know if you are willing.

March 29th& 30th - Carver Knife has resurrectied an old tradition at ORSA . The ORSA All Shoot. ORSA members can sign up to participate in a match involving modern pistol, shotgun and of course cowboy shooting stages. I would love to see some Cowboys enter and maybe try it all with our guns!  Friday is for the those working Saturday to shoot. I need four or five volunteers to work both days to run the Cowboyc stage.  I am excited to get a chance to see ORSA’s top shooters try a Cowboy Stage. Let me know if you can help.

April 13th-  No Voluteers needed just come and shoot at our Annual Reunion Match .  Food and Friendship to follow the match.

June 29th-  We are going to have a Charity Shoot.  I hope this begins an annual tradition.  We celebrate everything about the West  the people, the guns, the clothes but without the Horse it would have been a long slow walk . We are going to shoot stages where a Horse from the Westerns of Hollywood will be described and the line will be the Horse’s name. Jackalope wants to start you thinking by coming up with Matt Dillon’s Horse’s name. Money will go to Horse Haven Rescue. They do wonderful work saving abused Horses. Join us for a shoot, learn about the Horses we  all have watched for years and help Horse Haven.

September 21th-  ORSA IDPA held the State Championship for the last two years and it was to rotate to Memphis.  Memphis has declined so Oak Ridge has been called on to do it again.  They have a scheduling conflict and have asked us to Switch our second Saturday for their third Saturday. In the Spirit of the Cowboy and to help out another gun club we have agreed.  We will set up the week prior to the Third Saturday and shoot the Third Saturday.

That’s all I have .  I hear it whispered that we are a dying sport and maybe we are but it doesn’t mean we can’t have a Hell of a Good Time on the way out with our boots on and shooting !

General Discussion / Re: Set up on Sunday 12/2

If you plan on attending setup on Sunday . The gates at ORSA  are not working. My card would not work on the gates and apparently this is widespread. They are telling members to use 3333# until this is resolved.

General Discussion / Some changes for the June match
« on: June 05, 2018, 10:45:09 AM »
The power is on in the pavilion,we have lights and fans in the pavilion.  Maybe we’ll have fans on our stages like our good neighbors sometime in the future.  We also have a new gravel parking lot on the right side of the drive.  It should be large enough to allow most of us to avoid parking down the hill.  The action pistol board has safety concerns about the number of shooters parking up the drive at the stages being utilized for the matches.  This has become a real problem for other groups .  There are fears that if an accident occurs that emergency vehicles could not navigate until owners are located and vehicles moved. We have been asked to place barrels across the drive and prevent parking at our shooting stages.  It would be a good Cowboy act to leave the closest spots  for those needing to walk a shorter distance. Everyone but late arrivals should have parking in the new lot.  I hope these changes are positive and improve all of our enjoyment.     Some paving work on the 1000 yard range and the rain combined to damage our drive into the range.  Drive slow and be aware of the emergency cone and gravel filling a defect in the asphalt .  Repairs are forthcoming.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

I’m so sorry.  I was concerned that it didn’t look good Saturday.  Rest and let Jackalope do all the heavy lifting, dishes, etc .  Get well soon

General Discussion / Reunion Match on April 14th
« on: March 30, 2018, 10:50:15 AM »
Well it is time for the Oak Ridge Outlaws to have their annual Reunion Match .  We are going to have a long range event on the 100 yard bay starting at 8:00. Food will be provided along with soft drinks.  Hard drinks and beer are BYOB.  The match will start at 9:30 with check in at 8:30. I know the weather is always a factor but if you can let me know by Thursday April 12 if you are attending it will make buying enough vittles a little easier.  Hamburgers and Hotdogs . Hope to see all there!

General Discussion / Re: January Match Cancelled
« on: January 14, 2018, 03:34:55 PM »
Went out about 1:00 to pick up the steel , Sheriff had already picked up most
of it .  Tombstone showed up so we unloaded the last of it.  Great thanks to Sheriff and Tombstone. My old friend CB helped as well. The weather didn’t get as bad as they said as usual but with them predicting rain to snow with black ice on the roads I decided if we were going to lose anything better a match than a fellow cowboy.  As Honey said if they get mad they can always impeach you and step up to the job.
