General Discussion / Re: ORSA All Shoot Volunteers needed!
« on: March 28, 2019, 07:41:24 PM »
I'll be there at 8 with the ammo for the match and 2 pistols and a coach gun for fellows to shoot.  Purchased ammo is 45 Colt for pistols, 38 special for rifle and 12 g. light loads for shotgun.

See you there!

Thanks guys.  The ammo is purchased for the shoot.

If any volunteer wants to compete, be sure and let me know.

General Discussion / Re: ORSA open house Many Thanks

I just wanted to jump on and say "thanks" as well.  I'm not sure how many shooters we had, but I do know that "cowboys" was a big hit. I spoke to many happy people talking about how fun the event was.

Several people have suggested that we do something similar again, perhaps next year.

The original plan was for the volunteers to shoot on Friday.  This was because it was anticipated that more volunteers would want to shoot.  Since that response wasn't a great as anticipated, the volunteers will shoot Saturday with the squads.

I don't have a firm schedule as of yet, but I do know that any volunteers will be arriving first to AP so that they can help.  I would guess we are looking at around 30 shooters total- just don't know at this point.

ON A RELATED NOTE: I am having trouble finding Winchester Featherlight AA (Low Recoil/ Low Noise) shotgun shells.  Is there a secret source for these or another kind of shell people like shooting?  Also can't find STS Managed Recoil.

El Cantarito on Tulane has been around for a long time and is a favorite of the locals.  I have eaten there many times and everything has always been fresh and tasty.

Thank you for the great responses.  I loaded up a few samples with a couple of different powders that SWMBO shot with her brand new irons today.

She was pleased and, so,  we are good to go for "a while."

(Even with TrailBoss, there was a wee little bit of room inside the case for a bollet.)

I am wanting to load .38 spcl loads for revolvers only.  I have plenty of Trail Boss and 1000 124 gn bullets.

Any thoughts or advice on combining these to go bang appreciated.

Cowboy action use only.

General Discussion / Wife wants to shoot- help
« on: June 06, 2018, 10:12:53 PM »
Hi guys.
My wife Joan would like to shoot this weekend with the group.  Some of you have met her at lunch or the range.

She can use my .45 Colt Rugers, rifle and shotgun, but my leather looks silly puddled around her ankles.

I wonder if anyone has any spare leather that would hold my Rugers  and maybe fit her?  She is kind of medium sized.

If you have something she might be able to borrow for the weekend, could you contact here at joan.suggs@gmail.com and let her know?

Appreciate any help.

I've read and heard conflicting information on the modification of revolvers.  Specifically, installing a hammer with a lower spur.  What is the source of the "real rules" on this topic?

Update:
The fallen stage section has been repaired along with the middle section that was on the very verge of falling.    All that is left to do is screw down some new decking. I ran out of screws :).  I'm just going to do that and a few clean up items after work today- not much to do at all.

This was a fun project that I enjoyed doing.

That said, I think that the stage may need further attention over the next few months.

That might turn out to be very helpful (much better than my chainsaw at making good cuts).
Please text or call and let me know when and where I might meet you to borrow it.
Thanks.

General Discussion / Stage Repair 4/19 4:00pm

After talking to all of the "powers that be " that I can find,  I'm going to attempt repairing the stage where the porch has fallen in tomorrow afternoon.  (#3).  I hate the fact that it is in disrepair and just want to give a little back to the overall club.

I really don't think it will take more than a few  hours to remove the decking and see what is going on and make repairs.  If not, we can leave the caution tape up and fix it later this week.  (It won't be any worse than it is now).

If anyone would like to help, I will be there at 4.

I have a couple of battery drills/ drivers and a chainsaw.  I think I've got a bottle jack sitting around and maybe a automotive floor jack.
