Title: June Match
Post by: Tombstone on May 19, 2020, 10:29:34 AM
Doc and I talked over the weekend and we want to hold our June match. There are a lot of conflicting reports about this virus but the ones that cover outdoor transmission seem to be pretty consistent. There is very little transfer outdoors as long as we keep social distancing. (what ever the heck that is)
My question is, who else would like to get out and play on the 13th?

Jackalope, I don't know if you are getting out yet or not but I will be glad to take care of set-up and running the match but I really do not write that good of stages. If you would be willing to write the stages or let me have a few from the past we will offer a match.

TO will need to ware a mask or bandana and we will need to be aware of distance but we shot at Copperheads last weekend and the social distancing did fall apart at times. I will have a hand sanitizer attached to the side of my cart that anyone can use.

If you are not comfortable getting out yet please don't, if you feel bad please stay home, if you want to shoot come on out.
What we need to know is how many folks will show up. If only a few we will only use one stage and drop targets as we go along, if we have enough for two posses will set up two bays and shot 3  stages on each.

We will have small posses to help with the distancing. Post if you are planning on coming so we will know how much steel to set.

I am tired of living in fear of what has quickly become a moving target. I fear my government and the power they seem to have acquired more than I fear the virus.

As long as the weather is reasonable, I would like to join in.

I'm new and short on equipment. More of a need to learn than to throw lead. I might have a pair of revolvers by then.

Kitty Kat and I shot this past Saturday. We had fun, but It was difficult to shoot with a mask.

We will consider driving to Oak Ridge for a June match.

Count me in. Shot last Saturday at TMM. Most had masks on but not while shooting, at least in my posse.
Keep our distance changing stages.

This is an interesting article about outdoor transfer of the  CV-19 virus or as I call it Bat Stew Flu. It might make a few folks feel a little better about getting out.

Howdy,
I want to shoot the June match but will have to wait a while before committing. It's not just a matter of cov19 but also physical conditioning I've lost due to the gym being closed. I hope to return exercising next week.

I am very doubtful about attending in June, but I will wait to see what the data says.  Just in the last few days, 57 74 people have tested positive at the Monterey Mushroom faciiity in Loudon County.  As more places are opening up it seems like people are getting very lax and cavalier about protecting themselves and others with masks and distancing.  I had to go to Walmart today and I'd say less than 20% were wearing masks and people were standing around in groups talking.   It does not bode well in my opinion.  I hope I'm wrong.  Your mileage may differ.

I've been venturing out several times a week.  On a recent trip that included WalMart, Lowes, and Petsmart, I saw very few masks, little social distancing, and large crowds.  None of the workers at Petsmart wore masks or gloves.
I'm wearing a mask when out and I'm careful about keeping my hands clean, but I seem to be in the minority.

The largest concentration of Covid cases in Hamilton County are concentrated in a neighborhood that is mainly populated by Hispanic immigrants and subsidized housing.  The county has sent teams to offer free testing in that neighborhood, but residents want no contact with anyone having anything to do with any government agency, even the Health Dept.

I will not be attending yet. I am seeing a rise in the numbers again. Although not extreme, the rise started about the time businesses were allowed to reopen. I have only been out a couple of times; but as Mongo related, those of us taking precautions seem to be in the minority.

For rose of you shooting,  be safe and enjoy!

Jackalope, Looks like we may need more than one posse. Would it be possible to get two bays with three stages each?

We will have set-up on Sunday. Lets start at 1:00. We will be setting up two bays.

I will actually be at the range around 12:00 if anyone wants to go over rules or orientation for new shooters.

For the record, we can not set up until Sunday and no shots until after noon on Sunday.

Roma Jane and I plan on attending the June match if the weather will co-operate. Then there is that "ever changing world" thing. :-\

I also hope to "help" with setup.

I have to bow out. I wanted to start with the orientation this Sunday, but due to unprecedented demand I will be giving a TN Carry Class on Sunday. I hate working Sunday but I love supporting those who take responsibility for the safety of themselves and their families. So The People win!

I want to join this sport the right way, and as this means no RO1 on Sunday, this leads to not coming the next Saturday. Hopefully I can join next month. Go make some noise!

John, I was not going to give an RO class on Sunday, it was only an orientation class, it is not required to take it in order to shoot. I offer the class to make new shooters more comfortable for their first match. You are more than welcome to come to the match next Saturday. You have already read the shooters hand book, we can go over any questions you have Saturday morning. We will have someone kind of walk you through the first few stages to make sure everything is going good. I do ask you to be familiar with your firearms which I am sure you are.
Come on out on Saturday and get started with a life time of fun and friendships.

I do plan on holding a RO class soon but will have to get with SASS to get things moving again.

I'll try. Might be another class forming... Damn rioting is good for the firearms business.

If I do come, I will still need to borrow a rifle (or just skip that part of the stages and still have fun with the rest of it).

Hopefully will take possession of my revolvers tonight. And I have unjacketed lead ammo for them. Also have a crap shotgun which I would like suggestions for some minor slicking from those members who have a clue about them. I (am pretty sure I) have CAS legal shells for it.

But I'm excited about another firearm! It will not get to me for a couple weeks but I have a new '73 inbound! And CAS legal ammo ordered for it too.

John, I will bring some extra ammo and a rifle. You will enjoy it more if you have the full experience. I will bring any extra box of shotgun shells too, that is a safety issue so we want to make sure you have the right stuff to start with.

Talked to El Paso Slim and he asked if I would post that he will shoot this Saturday and that he is bringing a new shooter. (guess I just did). He said that he has trouble posting.

Have been playing in golf leagues, IDPA, and riding bicycles outdoors.   Don't know anyone who knows anyone that has gotten sick.  I'm in for Sat.

Talked with a doc about the face masks.   If a mask does not protect the person wearing it, then how can it protect someone else?   Masks are not one-way.  Anyhoo, the doc I talked to said the virus molecules are so small that they travel freely in and out of a mask.

Confirming I am in. Was not sure but got a rental car today since none of my vehicles can drive at the moment.

I might not be able to stay all day but I will be there by 8:30 in the morning. I'm probably good to 4 PM.

I will be bringing:

John I'll bring my 12a double and my 92 rifle and some extra ammo. You are more than welcome to use if you like.
I think TN Tombstone is bringing extra gear for me too. Would love to try your 92 on a stage. John Kloehr used a '73 when he took on the Dalton gang, but I am taking liberties with the alias. For instance, I am not shaving my beard to look like him.

But back to shooting, I would love to get a stage time with a shotgun that does not need to be broken open over the knee  >:( And if there is a safe time and place (and without interrupting the posse flow) to look at my lady's gun, I would like some thoughts from any experienced slickers as to how I can make it break open easier. Beyond that, I can polish the chambers and I'm not good enough to have beveling the chamber entry make any real difference. As to the trigger, have not shot it enough to have an opinion on how bad it is. But having to break it open over the knee is not optimal  :-\

Also, for all in attendance, I want to look at belts and holsters. I have some I can use for a few matches, they are safe enough to use. But I might be spending several seconds holstering each sidearm before going to the next firearm. I have a thread on the national forum documenting my search. I have heard there are several local makers. If any makers are in attendance, come say hello. I'll be the new guy with the, um, basic holsters.

I think I had enough fun for both of us, certainly more fun than any pill I've ever popped, and the docs have given me some good ones a couple times. Others seemed to have fun too!

I don't know you, but maybe we will meet in the next month or two.
