General Discussion / Today's Match
« on: December 09, 2017, 05:42:37 PM »
No one froze and we had a good time!  With the sun out, it was a good day to shoot.  We had one decent sized posse and everyone worked hard.  I'm very glad we shot.

We've got snow on the ground and they let schools out at 1:00.  How is the weather in Knoxville/Oak Ridge?

General Discussion / Rules Wizard Question 5
« on: October 04, 2017, 02:50:20 PM »
This happened last Saturday at MDR: A "buckerette" attempted to engage a rifle knockdown target, but jacked out the round.  Any of the remaining rifle or pistol knockdowns could have been cleaned up with the shotgun.  She left the rifle target up and did not try to knock it down with a shotgun round.

The TO and the spotters reasoned that, because buckeroos/buckerettes are not required to knock down knock down targets, only engage them, she was given a call of "clean".  Was this a correct call?

General Discussion / STS or Nitro Hull Source
« on: June 25, 2017, 08:36:53 AM »
Do any of you know a good source for once fired Remington STS or Nitro shotgun hulls?

AA Winchesters hulls work great in a 97, but are giving me fits in my doubles.

Trading Post / WTB .45 LC Bullets 200gr
« on: May 12, 2017, 06:35:07 AM »
I've got an order in for .45 LC 200 gr. bullets from Ziggy, but they won't be in for a couple of weeks.  If you have a box of 200 gr. bullets laying around and are going to Oak Ridge tomorrow, I would love to have them.

I'm picking up some new toys and I'd like to shoot them as soon as possible.

General Discussion / Cap and Ball Questions
« on: April 27, 2017, 09:33:18 AM »
Just in case the ROAs make an appearance at MDR on Saturday, I'm compiling a check list.  I've only fired cap and ball revolvers twice in my shooting career.  The first time I had 5 of the 6 chambers chain-fire on me.  I fired a different revolver a year or two later and was not interested in the amount of work required to keep these guns running.

Please chime in if you think I need something not listed here to get my Ruger Old Armies up and running.

1. #10 Remington caps
2. .457 balls
3. FFF BP  (I was told 20 grains was the load)
4. nipple pick
5. nipple wrench
6. snail capper
7. small piece of deer antler
8. small knife to remove fired nipples
9. powder measure
10. bore butter or wonder wads
11. loading jig

I have everything listed above.  Let me know if I need something else.

Trading Post / FS NM Vaqueros .45 LC SOLD
« on: March 10, 2017, 08:31:35 PM »
I have a very nice pair of 4 5/8" blued NM Vaqueros in .45 LC.  They are in excellent condition.  They have SB hammers (the originals are included), two sets of grips and the boxes.  I got these pistols in a trade a while back and I have never fired them.  I'm asking $1000 for the pair.

If you are interested in pictures, PM your cell number and I will text you pictures.

General Discussion / Today's Shoot

Jackalope made me laugh on every stage with his humorous stories.  I was a bit "brisk", but it warmed up nicely.  Good shooting and great fellowship. We had a great time.

Trading Post / FS Lassiter Lightning "Race Gun"
« on: October 24, 2016, 01:13:13 PM »
I recently acquired a Pedersoli Lightning that was extensively worked on by Lassiter.  I has been converted to be slam fired like the Lightning he runs in competition.  The gun is as slick as can be and hasn't jammed at all in the almost 500 rounds that I have put through it.

If you run it correctly, it is faster than any lever gun out there.  For me that is the issue.  It has great potential, but I'm not willing to put the time into it to make it my main match rifle.  After 13+ years with lever guns, I'm not willing to make the change.

It's a 20" octagonal barrel in .44-40 with a blued receiver.  It's in excellent condition and only shows a minor bit of gun cart wear and features a custom made leather butt cover.  I'm just trying to get out of it what I have in it, $1400.  The original owner had a good deal more than that in the gun with the amount of work Lassiter put in it.  This rifle needs to be owned by someone that's willing to put it through its "paces."

If your more interested in a stock Pedersoli Lightning, I also have one of those that I have never fired in the same configuration only in a 24".  It's a very nice rifle that I may eventually get around to shooting, but it's sat in the gun safe for two years without being shot.  The right offer or trade could make me part with this rifle also.
