General Discussion / New Years' Wish
« on: December 31, 2021, 11:25:39 AM »
Goodbye Twenty-one, don't let the door hit your @$$
Have to say it's not been a blast
Didn't think you could be worse than Twenty
But you got it done and it's a pity
Loss and sorrow far too much to name
Our lives will never again be the same
I've got my doubts about Twenty-two
Hope things get much better for me and you

General Discussion / New Years' Resolutions Anyone ?
« on: December 18, 2021, 07:14:23 PM »
There are a lot of things I would like to resolve to do right now, i.e., travel, go to concerts, go to a theatre, and much more.
Probably not a good idea.....
So, I'll take a look at my Cowboy shooting.
My first three years I shot mostly Duelist and Classic Cowboy. For about the next eight years I mostly shot Gunfighter. Then,
the last seven or so, Outlaw. I like to shoot clean when I can, and I like to place well when I can, however, I think I would
resolve to try just to enjoy the comradery we have left to us, and have fun. More like Loose Cinch. Meaning visit other categories,
shoot guns I usually don't, Long Gulch will agree I don't shoot enough black powder. Wear a lot of my clothes that are not black...
Well, that might be going too far.
I would desire to include shooting many more matches, but shortages still exist and many more other factors.
Harley.
PS- If you have resolutions of any kind post here so we can all enjoy and have conversation.....

General Discussion / NEEDY
« on: February 21, 2021, 10:19:56 PM »
I'm not in charge of anything, anywhere, but may I suggest:
(I have noticed on the SASS and other forums an unbelievable number of posts: "I need, or WTB, or WTT for...")
When going to your next match why not throw in items that YOU will never use. Sell or trade or give away, someone
wants them, now.....

This is Lat Kiss posting under Harley's login. We were at the cowboy match when Horse Doc and Appaloosa Honey were married. The minister performing the ceremony was Preacher Be Quick (he was- very quick when shooting). It was a lovely ceremony- a wedding amongst 100 friends, family, well- wishers.
Preacher Be Quick came prepared- brought his own shotgun, even made reference to it in the opening of the ceremony. He then read his own version of I Corinthians 13, which starts out- Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal..[KJV]
His version made quite an impression on the gathering. I am posting that same version here for all to enjoy- some of us again and others for the first time.

I Corinthians 13 – Cowboy Version©

“If I speak with authority about loads and bullet weights, but have not love, I am only an empty windbag filling the air with useless noise. If I have an R. O. II pin and can fathom all the mysteries and knowledge of the Shooter’s Handbook, and have a real Colt, not a clone, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to stock my closet with cowboy hats, clothes and boots and even donate my old clothes and lend my back up guns to the poor new shooters; and watch endless videos about transitions, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy another’s time, it does not boast of it’s power factor, it is not too proud of it’s engraved guns. Love is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in misses and procedurals but rejoices in clean stages regardless of time. It always gives others the benefit of the doubt and always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. Cowboy matches will cease; Cowboy guns will fail; Cowboy carts will become heavy; Cowboy feet will get sore; for Cowboy-ing is a game and all games have an end. And though we know the Cowboy Way and we love the Spirit of the Game and we honor the truths of loyalty, friendship, kindness and generosity; none of those truths has any power without love. And if by chance and by faith we glimpse the eternal God in each other it is because of love. And in that love is the seed of our true humanity for we were created by love and for love and our response to love is commitment and tenacious caring in the belief that one day we will fully understand ourselves and each other.

And when all life’s steel is rung and all the spent brass of our efforts is picked, we will be declared “all clear” at the last table because of love.”

SUSPECT 19

Suspect 19: Corona the evil entity
Like a plague visited on humanity
Born in darkness, from that came
Shrouded in mystery, set the world aflame
In the wake, death and sorrow
How will it be comes tomorrow?
In such short time span
Destroyed are the works of man
You cannot fight what you cannot see
Kills the strong and the weak equally
Takes your freedom, can take your life
Is there meaning to this strife?
Comes from animals so they say
Yet travels the planet in matter of days
Suspect 19: Corona the name
Mankind will never be the same

If you represent yourself as a character from western history, western movies, or western TV,
which one is it? It's easy to see: Mine is Wild Bill.

General Discussion / THE GAME
« on: March 22, 2020, 10:19:11 AM »
I miss "The Game," and the thought of "The Game." (As Cowboy Action Shooting has much been called.)
While it's true, due to many issues, I and Last Kiss in particular have not been shooting remotely as much
as we used to. However, even when I knew something was going to keep me from the next match, I've
done this for so long I always was looking toward the weekend with the game in mind. You see, the Game
was always there. If I didn't attend, there were still scores, (used to be newsletters,) and conversation on
the forums.
Sadly, the Game was already in decline. For now, it is gone.
We can't know what the future holds, but we don't need to let these forums sit idle. When humans get used
to not doing something, they quit doing whatever it was. Case in point: Riding, (motorcycles,) used to be me.
Now I don't have time, she can't ride, etc., etc.
If we all pass through this evil time for the world, our CAS numbers will be smaller, I'm sure.
If you think of anything to breathe life into our fantasy world of cowboy shooting, say it, online, or on the phone
to someone. Old pictures, or video. Anything. What your goals or dreams for future matches are...
Stay safe and carry on.

General Discussion / S E Regional Report
« on: October 27, 2019, 08:35:39 PM »
The Regional is in the books. The North Alabama Regulators welcomed us all and did all humanly
possible to make the match run with occasional heavy rain.
No one should ever think that match directors, range masters, or clubs have any influence over the
weather, having been there and done that, myself. When outdoors it's always luck of the draw.
Side match day was impossibly beautiful, Day one was at times, downpours. Day two was supposed
to be worse, but was not bad. Some drizzle and mostly light showers. Some light even showed through
a couple of times. I said, "In ancient times, that was called the sun." ::)
Branchwater Jack wrote some well thought out stages, and was like a man possessed trying to meet all
the needs of the day. Buck D. Law and so many others did well under pressure.
I did not shoot a good match but that was on me. I've seen rain before. Last Kiss shot CLEAN, by the way!
I really enjoyed the State Park Lodge at Guntersville, a classic older structure with a lot of wood, stone and
class. The Banquet was very enjoyable, especially at a table full of great friends!

General Discussion / The Kid
« on: October 16, 2019, 11:08:03 AM »
I recently saw the 2019 movie, The Kid. It's not about Billy the Kid, like you might think, though strongly
shown, but instead about an almost fifteen year old boy whose path has crossed those of Billy and Pat Garret.
Well written and well acted, a reasonable amount of action, I was surprised by how good it really was.

General Discussion / A Poem
« on: October 16, 2019, 10:53:50 AM »
Inspired in part by Mom's current hospital stay, and the 2019 movie, The Kid.

                       Mother

What Outlaws might we all be?
Without a kind mother to oversee
A good mother is the finest thing on earth
One must mature to see her worth
As an example: Billy the Kid lost his while young
What part was played in what he had become?
"Motherless children have a hard time," it's said
The loss of a mother is what we all dread

General Discussion / The Road
« on: June 17, 2019, 08:56:54 PM »
Inspired by some who have passed from my life, and some who are still with us:

                  The Road

When at the roads' end .....
Does it matter who you were, what you did?
Accomplish much, or very little
Wise or brave or noncommittal
No man, (or woman,) escapes their fate
What you were dictates your state
When at last the time expires
The road to forever never tires
I don't know how to love as well as I should
But, I had you in my life and that is good

General Discussion / Dark Days of May
« on: May 24, 2019, 10:07:30 PM »
I can't help but notice that this particular month has been so bad on many levels.
Deaths, Judge, Bea, and others.
Heart attacks, strokes, pacemakers, sprains, strains, rehabs, cancer recurrence, surgeries, non cowboy, local friends with
many, many problems. Personal problems, here for me and mine.
What, exactly is going on? I don't want to hear ,"time of life."

General Discussion / A Poem
« on: March 23, 2019, 08:25:14 PM »
Hurricane Charly advised me, today, to do more of something.
Working on it.

                  Where it's Heart Should Be
Something with nothing where it's heart should be
If there's such a creature, what would we see?
Is it a man, life's wrong road taken?
Or animal we shouldn't waken?
An object with something missing?
If you face it might leave you guessing
Outlaws shoot to center with every shot
What if that's where something is not?
Whether it's alive or dead
When in doubt, aim for the head
